It is our tradition to present a gift of fat quarters or a quilt to our guild president at our September combined meeting. Diane has worked hard for us this fiscal year. The July Summer Celebration Potluck is a great time to get to know others in the guild. The largest group that meets are our monthly General Meetings. They are held in the First Congregational Church, 7th Ave., Moline at 1 and 7pm. We have a sign in to keep attendance numbers. The Quilt Queens are a group of quilters who started out meeting the third Thursday each month at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 2363 W 3rd St, Daven-port. They were having so much fun they decided they wanted to meet two times a month. So they started meeting at the Eastern Branch of the Davenport Library the fourth Thursday of each month, too. Quilts of Valor was born out of the 911 tragedy. Catherine Robert’s son, Nate was deployed to Afghanistan. When he came home, she could see the demons of war had a strong hold. As he sat there Catherine wrapped a quilt around Nate and she could see the demons of war lose their power. The quilt brought healing to her son, so she thought quilts could help others also.
